HealthWay® Has Taken Strides to Improve IAQ and Comply With NYS HERO Act
It’s no surprise that HealthWay® headquarters utilizes the best in air purification. HealthWay® has been at the forefront of breakthroughs in indoor air quality, developing revolutionary solutions for all indoor air quality situations – including our own. Indoor air quality, shortened to IAQ, refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants.
Understanding and controlling common indoor pollutants can reduce the risk of indoor health concerns. Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or possibly years later. Pollutants can come from multiple sources including wildfires, stoves, factories, mold buildup, and in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic: humans.
COVID-19 is Only a Small Part of IAQ
Once it was discovered that the SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus) virus was airborne, many improvements and changes were implemented in the world of indoor air quality. IAQ has become a hot topic over the past 24-36 months with many experts and business leaders discussing how it impacts the well-being and health of human occupants. Furthermore, people continue to invest in air purification solutions to deal with workplace safety concerns, mold and mycotoxins, outdoor conditions, and pre-existing health conditions. According to the World Health Organization, 9 out of 10 people worldwide do not breathe safe and healthy air.
In May of 2021, New York signed the NYS Health and Essential Rights Act, also known as the NYS HERO Act, which was created to “protect employees against exposure and disease during a future airborne infectious disease outbreak.” The NYS HERO Act made plans specific for each industry, developed an airborne prevention standard, and created a communication system between employers and the NYS Department of Health as well as the NYS Department of Labor.
How HealthWay® Protects Employees
When it comes to workplace safety, HealthWay® does not hesitate to provide its employees with the cleanest air available and other resources they may need to feel safe. Before this law was signed, HealthWay® installed its own air purification units into all of its 4 facilities located in the town of Pulaski, New York. Utilizing HealthWay® patented Disinfecting Filtration System, or DFS, technology which collects and removes particles from the air sized as small as 0.007µ at a 99% efficiency.
Aside from mask-wearing, daily temperature checks, and other social distancing rules, soon after the NYS HERO Act was signed, HealthWay® took advantage of their state-of-the-art products by placing new filters and systems throughout their buildings to ensure the safety of their employees.
The In House Line Up
Along with his many tasks, Patrick Dougherty, the Safety Manager at HealthWay®, has recently begun a monthly air monitoring program where he measures the air in offices and production areas for anything “off-normal”. To measure this, he uses an alarming air monitor dosimeter that is usually used in heavy industry applications. Patrick states “One thing I appreciate here at HealthWay® is that we have all of our diverse units all over the place, being used directly by the people who make and sell them. From the inline units installed within our HVAC system, to 950Ps in conference rooms and production areas, I admire that we’re “putting our money where our mouth is.”
